DECLINE OF WOOL PRICES

SECOND WELLINGTON SALE

COARSE LINES LEAST AFFECTED.

Wellington, Dec. 6.

The Wellington December wool sale, limited to 27,000 bales, -was held today. Prices are down on the November rates, the fall on most lines being a penny. Coarse wools are least affected. Many lots failed to reach the reserve. There was a representative bench of buyers, who appeared to want the wool but were not able to pay the prices. The wool was not so good as that at the December sale of last season. / Mr. Moodie, chairman of the Wellington Woolbrokers’ Association, said the tone of the market wa<s anything but bright and the fall wa* heavier than anticipated. He remarked that the offering was rather disappointing, the wool being thin and off colour and badly grown. The quantity of. the super wools, which was generally a feature ,of the December sales, was very limited,, but when any good iiiicis came before the buyers sound prices were obtained, a number being secund for the United States trade. The demand for coarser styles of crossbreds was comparatively good. There was a very limited inquiry for-Merinos at the low range of prices offering. As the sale proceeded Bradford wag in the market, taking fair quantities, while German buyers were also operating fairly freely. The range of prices was:— Merino —

Dalgety and Co. report that the sale was disappointing, with erratic bidding. Bradford limits were very low for small purchases. . Germany was the largest buyer, while a fair weight of super wool was taken by America.

As compared with the .November sale prices for super crossbreds and generally par medium sorts were Id to 14d lower, inferior grades Id lower, and skirtings id lower. The sale weakened during the offering of the last two catalogues.
