ST. ANDREW’S CELEBRATION

PIPE BANDS’ PARADE AND RECITAL t The pipe bands from Hawera and New Plymouth had a church parade in New Plymouth yesterday morning and gave a band recital in the afternoon. The bands marched in the morning to St. Andrew’s Church, Devon Street, where an appropriate service was held. Swelled by the two bands and members of the Caledonian Society, including Dr. D. E. Brown, Chief, there was a full congregation. There was a large and appreciative audience to hear the Scottish airs played by the bands at Pukekura Park, and the final massed band selection, “79th’s Farewell,” was a splendid interpretation Drum-Major Nairn led the Hawera band and Pipe-Major Henson the New Plymouth. A total of £8 was collected.
