SHOOTING AT SHORT RANGES
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB’S RESULTS. The first stage of the short range handicap aggregate was fired by members of the New Plymouth Rifle Club at the Rewa Rewa range on Saturday afternoon. The competition was over 300 and 500 yards, ten shots being fired at each distance. There was a good muster of members but scoring was not high. A strong wind blowing gustily across the line of fire and changing strength rapidly was the cause, while most riflemen found the visibility deceptive. The limit scores possible for handicap men according to the club rules were 45 at 300 yards and 46 at 500 yards, a total of 91 for the day, but no one succeeded in reaching the standard. Riflemen Hartnell, Ramson, Clow and Mackay all notched 89, and Rifleman Higgs’ 46 at 500 yards was the top range score during the afternoon. Details are:—
The competition will be continued next week-end at ranges of 500 and 600 yards.
