ALL METAL FLYING BOAT
NEW SIANT FOR AIR FORCE. FIRST TESTS SUCCESSFUL. British Wireless. ' ~ Rugby, * ov ; 21 - The Royal Air Force giant all-metal flying boat Iris 111. was launched to-day at Brough, near Hull. The flying boat, which weighs 13 tons, was drawn from the hangar by a. traction engine and run down slips to the Humber. Her float and engine tests were carried out, and after half an hour’s flying test under the supervision of an Air Ministry expert the Iris HI. headed for Felixstowe where »he is likely to remain for 6 omo time. She has a crew of five and can carry 28 persons. The Iris Hl. is officially described as a reconnaissance boat and incorporates a gunner’s cockpit behind the triple rudders, enabling a clear field of fire .o? to; tho rear. ■
