SUCCESSFUL ANGLICAN EFFORT. . . The sale of work organised by Oakura members of the Anglican Church was opened by Canon H. R. B. Gillespift Fitzroy. Mr. Gillespie said he had had * greatness thrust upon him, inasmuch as in the absence of Archdeacon Evans, the greatest bazaar-opener Taranaki had ever seen, and of the vicar of the parish, the Rev. Adams, he had accepted the duty. He. ; conveyed the good wishes of the vicar to everyone of those assisting.‘ He advised. those present to go to it, buy everything and do it as quickly as they could. . ■>' - The eale proved a great success, the net amount realised, with the evening enter--tainment included, being well over £3O. Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Bond disposed of an, excellent proportion of their stock of beautiful and well-made garments. Mrs, Knight, Tataraimaka, did. a good trade at her fancy stall. At the lollies and. ice creams business reached the stage described as “roaring” when Misses Morris and . Costley were besieged by the school children after school. Mrs. Wilkins and-Mrs. Harris were practically sold out of their- amply supplied produce stall, and Mrs. Mahon and Mrs. Cochran ran a highly artistic and successful cake stall; Last but not least was the fish pond under the charge of lan Cochran and Darcy Corbett, who, - aided and abetted their trade by enlisting the interest of their school fellows to thb tune of over £L Afternoon tea : wasj . very daintily served in a veritable garden,; where there was an excellent gramophone.' ■ The tea was managed by Mrs. Sefton, ably -L helped by Mrs. Haskell, Mrs. Jury, Misses Hart and Haskell.
