KAWAROA PARK SOCIETY

HEALTHY FINANCIAL POSITION. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD. The annual general meeting of the Kawaroa Park Beautifying Society, New Plymouth, was held last evening. Mr. V. H. Beal presided over an attendance of 17 women and 12 men. . _ As the past president Mr. Beal said it was most gratifying to him to see all the old members of the society present. He hoped they would again be prepared to take office and carry on the work in the interests of the park. He thanked them for the excellent attendance. The balance-sheet showed receipts for the year, chiefly from afternoon tea, amusement evenings, shop proceeds, tennis courts and Easter picnic proceeds, amounting to £1670. Wages (£394), shop expenses (£405), afternoon tea and amusement evenings (£133), and Easter picnic expenses (£176), were the main items of expenditure. The society showed a credit balance of £429. The report (previously published) and the balance-sheet were adopted. * They would all agree that the society had had a very fine year, said the president. There had been a loss of £2Ol last year and this year there had been a profit of £249. The shop takings had increased, the profit being £159. The euchre party and afternoon tea profits had shown a good increase. There had been a slight decline in the tennis receipts and in the rental for the hall. They had to remember that there was increased competition from other halls these days. The profits from the Easter picnic were £230 as against £l7B last year. Mr. Beal thought the position of the society reflected great credit on all the members. Those connected with the workings of the different departments were to be congratulated on the results. The loss last year had been due partly to extra capital expenditure and, as he had anticipated, this year had shown a good profit. He thanked members for their co-opera-tion. With the balance it now had the society would be able to carry out certain improvements this year to the park. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr. A. A. Alexander; president, Mr. V. H.
