WAIKAREMOANA POWER

DEVELOPING 40,000 HORSE-POWER. Gisborne, Nov. 19. The ceremony but marks the completion of one stage in the development of one of the greatest power sources in the Dominion. Its present capacity is 40,000 horse-power, but it is estimated that it can develop 140,000 horse-power. It has cost £1,000,000 to date. Arapuni has cost £2,000,000, and Mangahao £2,500,000. Waikaremoana Is linked with the Mangahao system by a transmission line running between the power-house at Tuai and Bunnythorpe, close to Palmerston North. Within two years it will be linked with the Arapuni system also, and the three major power stations will then be one .system. , . ; -
