They are a team of giants and impressed the onlookers; who gave them a hearty welcome. They Were immediately motored to the Hotel Australia, where Mr. R. Oxlade, chair* man of the Australian Board of Control and other prominent sportemen greeted them and expressedthe hope that their tour" of Australia and New Zealand would be enjoyable and memorable and that it would have the effect of stimu* lating interest in big cricket. Mr. A. H. H. Gilligan, captain of tha Englishmen, said the team wa© no| downhearted over its defeat by Victorio* Mr*. Oxlade had a conference with Mft Gilligan, who requested the abandoj> ment of ..the Brisbane fixture.
