LORD CRAIGAVON’S WELCOME
WOMAN GIVES PARK TO CITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. . . An enthusiastic reception was given Viscount and Viscountess *Craigavon at the Ellerslie racecourse jo-day by a great gathering of Auckland residents who are ? ; of Ulster stock. More than 500 were present. Among those present.were the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. Baildon, th® Leader of the. Opposition, the Rt. Hon. . ‘ J. G. Coates, the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, and the Post-. master-General, the Hon. J. Donald. Lord Craigavon said he was ;/■ to be in New Zealand. The realisation.’/;; of some dreams was not always satis*.. , factory, but he had been amazed wher* •- ever he went in this beautiful land to see that his dream was a miserable an* ticipation of . the. gre.at. reality. Lora Craigavon said he-observed among those: present the children of his dearest friend>- ■ the late Mr. Massey. The title deeds of 30 acres of land in. the Avondale'borough were handed by . Mrs. W. H. Smith to Lord Craigavon, who then placed them in’the possession • _ of the Mayor. Mrs. Smith said she desired the land to be used, as a park to be ..known Craigavon Park. She was tendering to commemorate Lord Craigavon b visit - and to keep an honoured Ulster name forever a part of Auckland. . Mrs. Smith was warmly thanked io® her generous gift to the people of Auck-. land.
