HAWERA ATHLETIC SPORTS

SUCCESSFUL NIGHT MEETING. OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES. I The very successful electric light sports meeting held at Hawera last evening under the auspices of the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club reflected great credit on the responsible officials. The attendance, which was estimated at 500, was rather less than at previous gatherings. . The performances were of a very high order, despite the fact that the track was heavy. The outstanding performance was L. A. Newall’s high jump of sft. s Jin. from scratch, which was only half an inch outside ,his own centre record established three years ago. The same athlete won his heat in the 120 yards hurdles from scratch in 16 3-5 sec., jumping high hurdles. The most consistent sprinter at the meeting was M.
