MEETING OF LOYAL LODGE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The half-yearly meeting of members of the Loyal Kaponga Lodge was held on Monday night when L.M. Bro. W. Marr presided over an attendance of 26 members in the unavoidable absence of N.G. Bro. A. Jury. Two new members, Bros. C. Slater and L. Hevdon, were initiated into the order, P.G. Bro. C. E. Betts and Bro. L. Schicker acting as conductors, while Sister J. H.‘ Tyack played the accompaniments. . ’ The election of officers for the year then took place. For the N.G.’s chair two candidates were nominated, and Bro. A. Heydon was elected after the ballot. For the V.G.’s chair there were five nominations but owing to two withdrawing prior to the ballot the issue was confined to three candidates. After the first ballot Sister Maud Guy and Bro. A. Burt were level in votes, and a second ballot was necessary, when the former was returned. There, being only one nomination for the position of elective secretary, that of Sister Muriel Evans, she was declared elected. The final evening in aid of the Blue and White candidate. (Miss N. Donoghue) in the convent queen carnival was held in the parish hall on Monday, when 40 to 50 supporters attended. The evening, which was organised by Mrs. J. O’Donoghue, proved one of the most entertaining held during • the carnival. The evening was first devoted to a euchre tournament in which eight tables took part under the supervision of Messrs. Joe and Jim Hammersley. The prizes were won by Mrs. Joe Hammersley and Mr. G. Igram. Supper was under the direction of the organiser, assisted by a ladies’ committee comprising Mesdames. Joe Hammersley and J. 0. Donoghue, Misses E. King, A; Powell and M. Daley. After supper a, lengthy dance programme was enjoyed to music supplied by Miss M. Hickland. Extras were supplied by Misses Myrtle Evans and V. Fever, and Mr. Joe Hammersley was master of ceremonies. Several novelty dances were held with the following results: Spot waltzes, Miss I. Anglesey and Mr. Glyn Williams, Miss B. Hickland and Mr. G. Williams. A special feature was the novelty parlour games. A song was given by Mrs. J. O’Donoghue, who had to respond to a recall. The time for the closing of the carnival is 2.30 p.m. to-morrow (Thursday), and results will be announced at the ball which takes place in the town hall tomorrow evening. The final effort in aid of the Red and White candidate was held on Saturday evening at Mr. J. Romano’s residence, upper Manaia Road, when those present greatly enjoyed themselves. The hours quickly passed with cards, novelty competitions and dancing to music supplied by Messrs. F. Scauler and A. Engelberger (Kapuni), while several items by Messrs. F. Zimmerman, A.„ Engelberger, C. Sattler, F. • Schuler, J. Zimmerman and L. Erler were well received, Mr. L.
C. Dahinder as honorary secretary fot the candidate before the gathering dis*, persed thanked all present for the sup* port given. Miss E. O’Sullivan, Mount Messenger, is visiting Kaponga as the guest of Mr, and Mrs. Joe Hammersley. Dr. and Mrs. J. I. R. Gray are visiting Wellington.
