Commissioner John Cunningham, the newly-appointed Commisisoncr of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, accompanied by his wife and three children, arrived at Wellington to-day by the Ulimaroa from Sydney. A large gathering A of officers and members of the Army were on the wharf to welcome him’, including Colonel Taylor (the chief secre- . tary), and Mrs. Taylor, Colonel and Mrs. ? Gunn, the heads of departments, and the '- •whole of the Training College staff. Replying to an address of welcome, Commissioner Cunningham said they were glad to be in New Zealand. “We have brought our hearts with us, and are here will all the zeal and energy we possess to help you forward the work of the Army in New Zealand.” < Asked if he had a message for the Army in New Zealand, he said: ‘I want to assure the Army in New Zealand that, having myself become a Salvationist 40 years ago, and having given the very best of my days, my youth, and my strength to the Army, I am a thoroughly devoted Salvationist, believing in the Army’s teaching, and loyal to its purposes. Every energy I possess will be devoted to the furthering of its work and bringing about its great object.” To the people of New Zealand he said the best in him of his mind, ' heart, and spirit would be given for the uplift of the people, the furthering of J every good cause, and the blessing of the whole land.
