ARBITRATION COURT
BRIEF SITTING IN NEW PLYMOUTH A brief sitting of the Arbitration Court was held in New Plymouth yesterday. Mr. Justice Frazer presided, in company with Mr. L. J. Schmitt (employers’ representative) and Mr. A. L. Monteith (workers’ representative). The ease of W. G. Jones v. the Mokau Shipping, Timber and Coal Company was struck out on the application '■of Mr. R. Greiner. - Settlement had been readied, said Mr. G. M. Spence, in the case of Godiva C. Whiteside v. William- P. Gordon and Doris C. Gordon. The case was struck out. The case of Victor Mischewski v. J. H. Robson and E. H. Fazackerley was set down and the hearing adjourned till the next sitting of the court at New Plymouth. Mr. Spence said plaintiff was out of hospital, had taken up light employment and. it was desired to see the result. Applications to. add the Cambrian Engineering Company, Ltd., New Plymouth, and Oswald M. Smith, Gill Street, as parties to the Dominion storemen and packers’ award were granted. In the case against Frederick G. Vickers for an alleged breach of the hotel workers’ award, His Honour stated that the court would give its decision in writing.
Orders were made amending the apprenticeship orders in respect of the Taranaki Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Apprenticeship Committee, the Taranaki Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Apprenticeship Committee, and the Taranaki Painters’, Paperhangers’ and Deadlight Workers’ Apprenticeship Committee, providing that employers shall not be required to pay apprentices for time lost when attending military camps. In the case of the last mentioned committee rates of pay for apprentices were amended to £1 per week for the first year, ranging, to £2 10s for the fifth year. .
