MR. POLSON AND FARMERS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In reference to the discussion in the Press as to whether it is in the best interests of the Farmers’ Union that the president should or should not be a member of Parliament, surely it would not be unreasonable to suggest we wait and see. The union in electing Mr Polson president recognised what he had done for the farmers in the past, his sound judgment, and marked ability, and that few men understand the farmers’ position better. One writer stated that some members were likely to leave the union. It certainly is not so in this district, as before the advent of Mr. Polson the members of the union here were very few and far between; now the position is the reverse. The late Mr. Massey when Prime Minister, replying to premature questioners, used to advise them to wait and see. That advice, I think, would be appropriate in this case.—l am, etc., A. COYNE. Makahu, Oct. 11.
