MT. EGMONT ATTRACTIONS

NEW PICTURES DESIRED. The responsibilities of the Hon. P. A. de la Minister of Internal Affairs, have been added to by placing the Minister in charge of the Government Publicity Department, formerly controlled by the Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways. Mr. de la Perrelle stated to a News reporter on Saturday night that this week he proposed holding a conference with the heads of the department to decide on a plan for the efficient organisation of its functions. Asked as to whether it was proposed to link' up the Tourist Department with the Publicity .Department, the Minister said Cabinet had not yet considered the matter. There, were several matters in the Taranaki district connected with the Publicity Department about which he was making inquiries. “The fact is that the cameramen of the department,” remarked Mr. de la Perrelle last night, “have -formed a strong attachment to Mt. Egmont. I find that the publicity office possesses some very beautiful pictures of the mountain taken from various angles. I have given instructions to have the district re-visited this season to secure a fresh series of photographs, not only, of the mountain, but covering the dairying industries and the activities of the town and port of New Plymouth.” A visit to thq mountain house was made by Mr. de la Perrelle yesterday afternoon. The party included Mr. and Mrs. J. McLeod, , Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Stainton, Messrs. Hyder, Shorter, Mrs. J. Niven (sister of the Minister), Miss Perth McLean (cousin of the Minister), Mr. P. J. Kelleher, and several others. On arrival at the mountain house the party was received by Mr. and Mrs. Lorimer and entertained at afternoon tea.

Returning to New Plymouth in the evening, Mr. de la Perrelle said he was greatly impressed with what he had seen. “There is no doubt about it,” he said, “that Mt. Egmont is a wonderful attraction and a wonderful asset to the district. We saw the mountain to-day in all its grandeur; it was a magnificent sight and well worthy of the descriptions given to it. Quite apart from the other attractions of the district, Mt. Egmont is an attraction to everybody; its beauty is always great.”
