MEMORIAL CARILLON
MAY ARRIVE EARLY IN MAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Speaking about the memorial carillon, the chairman of the committee (Mr. H. D. Bennett) stated to-day that the North-East Exhibition at Newcastle-on-‘Tyne (England) was, according to his . „ advices, closing down at the end of the S resent month, which would mean that be carillion would then be dismantled and restored to the care of its manufacturers. Mr. Bennett said the proposal he had received from the High Commissioner in London (Sir James’ 1 Parr) was for consent to have the bells suspended in Hyde Park, London,' to which the local committee had given its consent, subject to the usual safeguards. He believed the bells would be dismantled, packed and shipped to New Zealand, and might reach here early in the new year.
