The “tick, tick, tick” of a watch at Hamilton was distinctly heard by Mr. B. C. Bennett, president of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce, when he was conversing by telephone with a Hamilton subscriber. Mr. Bennett was much impressed with the value of the new system.

He has taken three good fish from this stream since the season opened and others elsewhere.

A radish root which had penetrated its way through a small piece of horse hoof paring.and was developing vigorously was recently found in Mr. W. Vincent’s garden at Manaia. A collision between a fight lorry and a motor-car at Hawera on Wednesday afternoon necessitated the removal of the lorry to a garage for repairs, while the car, with a bent mudguard and a twisted headlight, was able to proceed on its journey. The lorry, driven by a Matapii resident, was proceeding into the town by way of High Street, and the collision occurred at the Vogel Street intersection. The car was driven by a Hawera lady.

This week 100,000 fry have been distributed in the Waingongoro and a similar number in the Eltham district streams. Weekly liberation of fry will take place until the whole of the available stock is dealt with, a sufficient number of the young fish being retained in the ponds at the hatcheries until they become yearlings. This season’s distribution of fry and yearlings will total about 500,000,
