GENERAL ITEMS, Candidates for the home-nursing examination completed the test on’ Wednesday afternoon,-'.the written examiiia ■ tion having-taken place - the previous week. There were- five entrants. The examiner- was Mrs. Hoskins, and the candidates- did. special bed-making -and bandaging and answered questions orally-. ■ “he junior Red Cross, as represented, by 20 of the school children, gave a doncert in the school on Thursday afternoon. Several parents were present, and 12s 9d was realised. The. singing of both ooys and girls was excellent, Mrs. Mahon having devoted much time and study to the preparation of several choruses, which were rendered in good style, while the- recitations were •on the same good level. The children are showing a, keen interest in the aims and objects of the society. The school, room' was decorated for the occasion with posters specially prepared for such purposes. The local branch of the Women’s Division met on Saturday, when the main •purpose was to hear Mr. Richards, New Plymouth, speak on the League of Nations Union;. After apologising for the absence of Mrs. who had hoped to be present, Mr. Richards spoke on her behalf with' reference to the hospital radio fund. Mr. Richards gave a most interesting talk oh the League of Nations and' the union. He said that in countries where the immediate effect of w.ar had been felt during the Great War there was the st/ongest following for the union. In thanking Mr. Richards for his address, Mrs. Harris said she would put before the. branch a proposal that it should become a corporate member of the union.
