FIRE BRIGADE ANNUAL BALL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual ball of the Kaponga Fire Brigade in the town hall on Thursday was as enjoyable and happy a function as any held in the past, although the attendance was not as good as last year. The interior of the hall had been transformed from its usual bareness to a green arbor with many decorations of fiery red streamers, abundant supplies of greenery, and rhododendrons. There was arranged on the stage front all manner of fire brigade equipment. For the decorations the was indebted to Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Knight and Miss P. Knight. To the music of Coburn’s orchestra over 60 couples took the floor for the first waltz, and latecomers brought the total to 90 couples. Visiting firemen were present from Elbham and Manaia, and there were many visitors from Hawera, Opunakc, Eltham and Stratford. The masters of ceremonies for the evening were Messrs A. Melville and C. H. Brewer. Assisting with extras for the evening were Miss M. Hickland and Mr. A. Price. The supper arrangements were capably carried out by a committee comprising Mesdames A. Melville (convenor), F. Albon, I. Evans, S. Wells, J. H. Tyack, E. W. Blackwell, W. J. Noonan, C. A. Brewer, F. Little and Miss V. Albon. The excellent decorations of the supper room were supervised by Miss V. Albon. The receipts which were £25, £3 less than last year, will leave a fair credit to the 'brigade’s funds. BOWLING CLUB MANAGEMENT. The monthly meeting, of the Bowling Club was held on Thursday evening, when . Mr. A. V. Tait presided over 12 members. Correspondence was received from the secretary of the Opunake Bawling Club in reference to entering teams for the competition for the coming season. After a good deal of discussion it was decided that the chib should enter four rinks in the western division. Mr. J. H. Tyack was appointed to the selection committee and a green-stew-ard in place of Mr. A. Hawkins, who had left the district.
