DISTRICT NEWS
PURANGE (From Our Own Correspondent.) The weather for September was much drier than last year, but cold winds and frosts made up for it. Rain fell on nine days, a total 0f'6.70 inches, against 14.39 inches last year. Frosts continued up to the end of the month. Owing to darying being in full swing this has been a fairly quiet month. On September 21 our football club held its annual social evening, but this has been reported by your Matau correspondent. The hit of the evening was omitted in that report, viz., th© trio’s rendering of ‘‘We won’t Go Home Till Morning,” song without words. On October 1 the petitions for metalling the Matau South Road, Kiore to Matau, were handed in at the Stratford Council’s office. Having the required majority of signatures, £2200 on the estimates, and a keen engineer to back it up, matters should be now pushed ahead. This will bo much appreciated by all in the riding, as well as by our friends outside.
