RUSHED BY FOUR LIONS
HUNTERS IN TIGHT CORNER. ONLY ONE CARTRIDGE LEFT. A thrilling lion-hunting encounter was experienced by a party of ’ South African hunters at Sabie recently, says a Johannesburg newspaper. They went for a shooting trip to the low veldt some 70 miles from Sabie, and shot several wildebeeste on Saturday night some distance from their camping, place. Early on Sunday morning three of the younger men went to fetch their wildebeeste, took their guns and only a limited supply of cartridges, and when they arrived at the spot—in a very bushy place—they observed a lion. To make sure about their safety they all fired at the lion, wounding it, when suddenly four more lions appeared on the scene, practically rushing at the hunters. There was, of course, no time left to discuss the best way of dealing with the ferocious animals. All the sportsmen fired at the lions almost simultaneously, wounding two more, and the other two made their escape. The most thrilling part of the whole affair was that after the encounter the party had only one solitary cartridge left among them.
