ARRANGEMENTS FOR HALLOWE'EN. One of the old-time festivals of Scotland, Hallowe'en, falls on October 31, but as the date is unsuitable locally the New Plymouth Caledonian Society, at a meeting on Saturday evening, decided, to celebrate the festival on November 4 in the Agricultural Hall, prices being fixed at 2s 6d and Is fid. There were present at the meeting the chief (Mr. A. McHardy) and Messrs A. Rankin, J. H. Johnston, J. Corkill, W. Jones, J. F. Andrews, J. B. Erskine and M. Gray Nasmith (honorary secretary). The celebration will take the form of a plain and fancy dress dance. It was further decided to hold a children’s evening at the band room on Saturday evening, November 2, and a subcommittee was appointed to make arrangements. The balance-sheets of recent functions were presented. The Waitara ingleside showed a profit of £l7 16s 3d, fifth ingleside £lO Is Id, and ball £l5 18s sd. The credit balance at the bank at the end of the financial year was £9B 10s 6d. The Westown Hall Committee and the Waitara Croquet Club wrote thanking the society for the holding of inglesides on their behalf. The resignation of Pipe-Major A. S. Kirkland was received. It was decided to place on record the executive’s appreciation of Mr. Kirkland’s services and to accept the resignation with regret. Pipe-Sergeant G. Shepherd was appointed acting-pipc-major. The annual report for presentation to the annual meeting on November 9 was considered and approved. A hearty vote. of thanks was accorded the Reel Class Committee for its services during icthe year, warm appreciation of its work being expressed. ■ This being the final meeting of the executive during its term, the chief extended his thanks for the assistance given him by each and every member of the executiverin the discharge of his duties, and trusted that the same support would be given to his successor.
