WHIRLIGIG OF TIME
MR. AIacDONALD IN 1914. “AN UNDESIRABLE PERSON.” London, Sept. 24. Alany changes can bo made in 15 years. How the Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay AlacDonald, went to the front in 1914 as an ambulance volunteer, was arrested and sent back as an undesirable person, is revealed by Air. Hessell Tiltman in his “Life of Mr. AlacDonald,” which will be published by Jarrold's on Friday. Very high British officials, one of whom is now a Governor in the Dominions, considered Air. MacDonald an undesirable person to serve at the front in any capacity, states the author. On the instructions of General John Seeley, Secretary for War from 1912 to 1914, Mr. AlacDonald was later allowed to return to Belgium, and was received by the very officers who ordered his deportation.
