£300 SURPRISE PACKET

UNDER SEAT IN MOTOR CAR. Geneva, August 2. The discovery in a motor-car of a bag of banknotes and gold coins worth about £3OOO was reported by the Geneva newspapers yesterday. A party of Swiss professors and clergymen Were returning from a motoring tour in Italy, and when their luggage was being examined at the frontier near St. Bernard Hospice a bag was noticed beneath one of the seats. As none of the tourists would admit ownership of the bag, the suspicious Customs officials forced it open and were amazed to find it packed with banknotes and gold coins. On arrival at Geneva the tourists handed the money to the police. Papers found in the bag indicate that the money represents a bequest to the heirs of a sick Italian.
