The.club for the-first time for several . years had conducted two carnivals,- and _ in/addition the > Taranaki; centre , championships. Although the carnivals had not been . a financial- success-- the entries bn both occasions had been ally good/ providing' events, :the .report .stated, that had .been;greatly appreciated by .the public. At the second carnival Mr. G. Harrison, Opunake Club, had lowered the Taranaki-.record for the 220 /yards free-style-. . .. * GREY CUP COMPETITION. * I■ \ \ : The Grey Cup donated for the cham- : pion relay team had’ again been won by Opunake after a splendid race. Water •. polo had created great interest among ‘ swimmers and the public •and although , the club had not been successful in winning either the Dalgleish or the Garth . Cups there were many players among - the?’'members; > Thanks were due to Mr. Garth for the feup le .had donated for junior competition. The club nights during the eea- ■ son ’ had ' been- condutced on totally, new • lines, there being a set programme for each evening, and thanks were due to Messrs. Flannagan and Jago and the committee for the aggregate trophies donated by. them. Miss J.- Lawrey and ' J. Harper and H. Watkins were the win- - ners of these trophies. h Thanks were also due to Mr. Lund for the presentation of a trophy for the .club’s 100 yards championship, won by -R. Shaw. ; The Flannagan Cup race :had again created considerable public interest. This . year it was swum over a new course, from the Ngamotu beach pavilion to the ‘East End beach pavilion. Of sixteen starters only'two had finished, K.- Staunton being first and C. Plumtree second. .’* : As a fitting conclusion to an exceptionally good season a most enjoyable dance had been held in St. Mary’s hall, where the season’s trophies wfcre -pre- - sented by Mr; P. E. Stainton, chairman of the. baths committee. During the season the club had suffered a severe 'loss in the resignation of . Mr. Small, the secretary, who had proved .a capable officer. Mr. 11. J. Duffin had - been elected-to the position, •• In addition to his annual report, Mr. •Eggleton stated there was no doubt the - New Plymouth club had’had advanced ’greately in the .season. It. was- the most ■ fiuccessful club in the province. Ihe Carnivals had been well organised. He had to remark upon the progress made by the club ?n water, polo. It was re..grettable that many of the entries were not filled and Mr. Eggleton considered that some drastic measures should be taken. No doubt water polo and relay .races.had a lot to do with it, the competitors hanging back for these events. Ho suggested that a water polo carnival be held. ' Mr. Gayton stated one of the chief causes was that 2s 6d was charged for entering and swimmers put their names down for a number of raceK'but started jn whatever they thought fit. ■ A large number of new members were elected.

DR. WALKER LIFE MEMBER. It was recognised that for many years Dr. Walker had been an ardent supporter of the club,--several rhembers eulogising the services rendered, by him. He was elected an honorary life member. • Messrs. M. Smale, M. D. Clarke and H. Duppin offered trophies for the aggregate scries. Mr. W. Brown offered a trophy for ; .the most improved lady swimmer and Mr, -W. Penman donated a trophy for the most, improved junior swimmer. The election of. officers resulted: President, Mr. P. J. Flannagan; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. A. R. Standish, V. Garth; honorary secretary, Mr. H. J. Duffin; honorary treasurer, Mr. A. Petty; committee, Messrs. M. D. Clarke, L. Petty, C. F. Shaw, R. Shaw, N. Lealand, H. Watkins, W. Penman, M. Smale. W. Brown, T. Godfrey; club captain, Mr. W. Penman; vice-club captain, Mr. A. Pettv; delegate to centre, Messrs. M. D. Clarke and M. Smale; starter, Mr. M. H. Moyes; marksmen, G. Bertrand,, G. E. Jago and W. Brown; judges, Messrs. C. Brown, A. R. Standish, R. Day, P. J. Flannagan, V. Garth and D. Bennett; Jiandicappers, Messrs. A. Bell, C. Shaw, M D Clarke and W. Penman; auditoi, Mr. G. E. Jago; * ladies’ stewards, Mrs. Gayton, Misses Harper, B. Gay ton; timekeepers, Messrs. V. Dalgleish, Ferry and J. Bennett; club coach, Mr. D. Syke=>, water polo coach, Mr. S. Bennnett; water polo captain, to be left to the team to choose; check starters, Messrs.. G. Gayton and V. Garth. . At the conclusion of the meeting supper was provided by an anonymous member of the club. . ’ At the subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr. M. D. Clarke was elected Sairman, with Mr. M, Smale deputy - chairman. The executive committee to _ control the club nights was Messrs. W. Penman, T. Godfrey, R. Shaw, K. Shaw, L. Petty, W. Brown and N.
