IMPROVING LOUDON BOSKS

NEW ENTRANCE AT TILBURY GREATEST SHIPS MAY ENTER OTHER WORKS IN PROGRESS British Official Wireless. Rugby, Sept. 26. The new entrance lock at Tilbury Docks on the Thames 20 miles below London Bridge, which will make it possible for the biggest vessels afloat to enter those docks, will be opened this afternoon in the presence of engineers from many distant parts of the world. The construction of the new entrance to the docks is one of. a series of important improvement works at London locks undertaken during the past five" years. The new entrance lock is 1000 ft long, 110 ft wide and has a depth oi 454 ft of water at high tide. Other improvements in progress will make Tilbury still more attractive to the biggest shipping. These works include the construction of a new dry dock 750 feet long and' 110 feet wide, opening out of the main dock, and the transference of railways for goods and passenger traffic to south of the main dock. It is probable that a new landing stage will be available in the near future and this will mean a saving of time to most liners.
