Mr. G. Rogers, of Opunake, left yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. The Rev. John Bissett, evangelist of the Presbyterian Church, is on a visit to New Plymouth. Rev. and Mrs. W. Saunders, of Dunedin, have been staying with their son, Dr. D. H. Saunders, Eltham, and returned yesterday. The Rev. R. B. Gbsnell, Fitzroy, was yesterday informed by cable of the death in Sydney of his mother, Mrs. Edward Gosnell, at the age of 74. A vote of sympathy with Mr. H. H. Olsen, Avenue Road, in his illness was passed by the committee of the Taranaki Ayrshire Breeders’ Club in New Plymouth yesterday. Mr. L. M. Barr, who has been acting as curator at the Taranaki Acclimatisation Society’s hatchery, has been engaged by the Taranaki Automobile Association to act as town canvassei for a period of four months. News has been received by the United States consul at Auckland of the death in Indiana on August 16 of Mr. Alfred A. Winslow, aged 75, United States Con-siil-General for New Zealand from 1915 to 1920.—Press Association. About 40 business men of Auckland attended a function held on Thursday to bid farewell to Mr. J. B. Henry, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Auckland, who is retiring after 49 years’ service, and leaves shortly on a visit’to England. Mr. Henry was presented with a selection of travelling requisites, comprising four suitcases, two wardrobe trunks and two rugs. Mr. Nisbet Mcßobie, aged 56, a former Southland Rugby representative for nine years and a member of the All Black team which toured New Zealand in 1890, died at Auckland yesterday, reports the Press Association. He was a wellknown bowler and golfer. Mr. Mcßobie served in various New Zealand newspepers and at one time was geneial manager of the New Zealand Times, Wellington. The death has occurred at Wallington, Surrey, of the Rev. William Bedell Stanford, M.A., who was in his 92nd vear. He took his B.A. degree from Balliol College, Oxford, in 1860, and in 1863 was ordained deacon. For the first 32 years of his ministry he was engaged in scholastic work as assistant master of the King’s College, Sherborne, headmaster of Beaumaris Grammar School, Gloucester Collegiate School, St. Chad’s School, Denstone, and, lastly, St. Peter’s School, Adelaide. From 1882 to 1890 he was canon at Christchurch, and principal of the Theological Department of Christ’s College, Christchurch. On returning to England from New Zealand he was appointed headmaster of St. Mark’s College, Windsor, and in 1893 became rector of Wishaw, Warwickshire, a post which he retained until a few months ago. He was brother of Mr. R. L. Stanford, who was Magistrate at New Plymouth some years ago.
