COURSING AT WAITARA
LAST GATHERING OF SEASON REJECTED BLUE TAKES FAHY CUP. LAST THOUGHT AGAIN IN FINALS. The Waitara Coursing Club concluded a most successful season yesterday on the Brixton Plumpton, where it staged two stakes, the maiden event for the Fahy Cup, which drew 16 dogs, and the Sapling Stakes, for which four doge were carded. Coursing throughout the day was first class and keenly contested, Rejected Blue scoring rather a surprise win in the Fahy Cup from the Last Thought, which has run consistently throughout the season. Though there were only four in the Sapling Stakes, the youngsters showed some good form and the event was very interesting. Mr. T. Hughes again gave every satisfaction in the judicial position, while the slipping of Mr. Don Telfar left nothing to be desired. That such a big programme was run off in the afternoon with as little delay as possible between the rounds was a tribute to Mr. L. A. Jury, the secretary. At the conclusion of . the coursing the president, Mr. H. R. Soffe, stated that the coursing for the season had concluded with the meet of yesterday afternoon. In calling upon Mr. W. O’Brien tp accept the handsome Fahy . Cup, he stated that it was a very pleasing feature that the trophy had been won by a man who had coursed unsuccessfully during the past two seasons. The win was the reward of his consistency and perseverance. He then called upon Mrs. T. Fahy to present the cup. In reply Air. O’Brien said he felt honoured to’ accept the cup. -He would be pleased if the committee would call upon him to give a trophy for competition next season.
