AMATEUR ATHLETICS
THE DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS.
VVANGANUI- TARANAKI CENTRE.
By Telegraph—Press Association
Wellington, Sept. 5.
A meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, Mr. McVilly presiding.
A telegram from the Otago centre stated that it would be impossible to hold the New Zealand cycling road championship in that district if the September date was adhered to. Mr. McVilly said that he disapproved of the method of hawking championships about the country, and considered that centres to which championships were allotted should carry them out. Mr, Bright said that he was certain Otago could run the race if it wished, The event is to be given to Canterbury, subject to acceptance, and the date is to be not later than October. Permission was granted to the Wa-nganui-Taranaki centre to hold the New Zealand amateur athletic championships on Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15. Authority was given to set aside £2O for future overseas tours. Affiliation was granted to the Kaiapoi Harrier Club. Leslie Bonner (Wanganui) was reinstated as an amateur cyclist. Reference was made by Mr. McVilly to some trouble in ' Auckland through feeling against the president of th'e centre, Mr. Morton. He said that it was to be regretted that Mr. Morton’s good work should be forgotten and his mistakes magnified. He expressed a hope that, now the new Auckland centre rules had been put in hand, the clubs would do their part in the best interests of amateur athletics.* -
