VITAL STATISTICS.

The following are the vital statistics for Inglewood for the month of August, the corresponding month of 1928 being in parentheses: Birth 9 (5), deaths 3 (1), marriages 5 (6). WEATHER FOR AUGUST.
The rainfall at Inglewood for August was considerably below the average fall for that month. The total fall amounted to 4.72 inches, with rain fall on fifteen days, while in August, 1928, 9.25 fell on 13 days. The average fall at Inglewood for the month of August since the rainguage has been taken here amounting to 8.33 inches, whjle the wettest August was experienced in 1927, when 11.72 inches fell on twenty-two days, and the driest one was in 1918, when 4.61 fell on sixteen days. The total fall for the year to date amounts to 53.44 inches, compared with 42.97 for the same period of last year. Generally speaking the first ten day of August were wet and rather cold. It then cleared until the 16th, when rain again started, and the following day Inglewood experienced the heaviest fall for the month, when .74 fell. The last ten days of the month were beautiful sunny days, with a very cold southeasterly wind, and cold frosty nights. A FALSE ALARM. About 3.30 p.m. on Saturday the fire siren suddenly sounded, and the brigade were soon out, but it could find no fire. It was reported later that a young child had seen the fire alarm chain, and wondering what it was had pulled it, hut soon disappeared when he found that it was the fire alarm siren he was sounding.
