WAITARA NEWS

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) While cranking the engine of his bread delivery van, Arthur Chittenden, son of a Waitara baker, had the misfortune to fracture his wrist owing to a back-fire of the engine. The injured lad was attended to by Dr. Barclay and is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. The Vagabond Revue Company’s entertainment given last Wednesday resulted in a net profit of £32. The death occurred on Saturday morning of Ned Wetere, a son of the old Maori chief Kingi Wetere. He had been ill only a few days, the last day or two of which had been spent in a state of coma. Ned Wetere was a well educated Maori, having studied for the law,. and in recent years had found occupation at the freezing works. On Friday evening the cricket enthusiasts resident on the east side of the Waitara River held a meeting to discuss the advisability of forming a club to be known as the Waiftra East Cricket Club. The general opinion of those present was that a second club for Waitara would be successful. It' was decided to make inquiries and to call another meeting at an early date.
