Attempting the double event, Miss Ivy Hawke, who swam the English Channel from France to England, failed to swim the other way. She started from the South Foreland yesterday and was taken' out of the water three miles from the French coast after 16 hours. She seemed likely ,to succeed till midnight, when a head wind caused a rough sea.
