SOLVING BRITAIN’S PROBLEM

CANADA'S OBLIGATION TO HELP.

SPEECH BY RT. HON J. H. THOMAS.

By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Sept. 1, 5.5 p.m. Ottawa, August 30.

Speaking at a luncheon given by the Government of Ontario, the Rt. Hon. J. H. Thomas, Privy Seal, said Canada should help Great Britain in the solution of her present problem.

It was a fact that Britain had been for many years, and was still, Canada's best customer. Moreover, Canada was a member of the British Commonwealth of nations, and if that institution was worth doing a little to support there was no use talking about the flag. By a mutual conference much good could be done to promote greater inter-imperial trade.

Touching on international affairs, Mr. Thomas said: “Mr. Philip Snowden went to the Hague to restore our prestige. He showed to the satisfaction of the world that, while we are prepared to meet our obligations and pay twenty shillings in the pound, we were not prepared to be bled white.for purposes of compromise.”
