Y.W.C.A. OF NEW ZEALAND
BIENNIAL CONVENTION. Airs. David Smith, national president, welcomed about 80 representatives of all departments of the Y'.W.C.A. and of local branches at the annual conference m • Wellington. Greetings were received from the Auckland, Palmerston North and Timaru associations, while overseas messages of goodwill camo from Japan, India, China, Malay, United States of America, South Africa, Canada- and Great Britain.
In her opening address Hit. Smith said that delegates should have assembled keen to learn from the experience of ono another, and that together they were called upon to explore the ways of truth for the association. The theme of the convention being declared as “The Source of Power for Life and Service,” delegates would realise that at the basis of such a search was the purely personal matter of the spiritual depth of individual lives. z
In the evening the convention was visited by Lady Alice Fergiisson, who complimented the delegates on the comprehensiveness of the work undertaken by the association. Her Excellency also expressed her appreciation of the work in connection with the Flock House scheme, which she declared could not be successfully undertaken without the cooperation of such an association. The work that the Y.W.C.A. was doing in giving girls high ideals of home-,making and of marriage also appealed to Her Excellency, as she said that the wellbeing of the British race depended upon the individual home.
