LONG-DISTANCE WIRELESS

ANTARCTIC TALKS TO ZEPPELIN.

(Special by Mr. Russell Owen.; Bay of Whales, Aug. 29.

Our radio station was in direct communication with the Graf Zeppelin last night on the last part of its flight. Carl Petersen got in touch with the big airship while the latter was over Bellefonte (Pennsylvania), and talked for some time to Freund, one of the Zeppelin’s operators. Petersen first heard the operator trying to get New York, and in turn Petersen called San Francisco and notified the station there that the Zeppelin wished to talk to‘New York on a certain wave length. Then Petersen tuned back on the Zeppelin, and picked up the airship almost immediately. It was one of the longest return conversations ever held.
