INGLEWOOD NEWS.

FOOTBALL AS A BOY SAW IT. (From Our Own Correspondent. At the recent Norfolk Road school jubilee afternoon a football match wafl played between an Inglewood school junior team and the Norfolk Road school. The following is a description of the game as a small Inglewood schoolboy saw it: — Inglewood had the kick off. “Now rim up, Inglewood!” shouted the crowd who were watching the game. R. Kennedy gets the ball and kicks hard. An Inglewood fellow he is. Inglewood are getting down further. “Hold them back Norfolk!” cried some of the .crowd who were barracking for fhem? Norfolk boys did hold them back and Inglewood boys were getting slack. Norfolk and Inglewood boys were about in the middle of the field. K. Hidges next gets the ball and runs well. He passes it to B. Faris; he kicked and it went out. After that I suppose you would know that Inglewood were near their scoring line. After the ball is thrown in D. Hynes and T. Winter have a good pass between them both. Now there is only a number of minutes to go till half-time. The ball goes out and half-time comes, and both sidefl have got nil. The whistle is blown for the start again. Norfolk has the kick-ofl. F. Orr gets the ball and kicks. A Norfolk boy gets the ball and runs hard. He was about four yards away from Norfolk’s flcoring line and he has a dropkick over the goal. He got it right over. Four Norfolk Road, nil Inglewood. Now Inglewood boys have to shake their foots. “Inglewood have not got the wood in them to-day!” cried some of the people. The ball is now thrown about by both sides. R. Kennedy gete the ball and hangs on to it too long. Free kick for Norfolk boys! Inglewood boys are tired out and can’t get very far down. Some of the Norfolk boys are still- going strong. Walker, a Norfolk chap, gets the ball and runs well. He passes it to B. Marshall, a Norfolk boy, and he kicks hard up into the air and R. Kirkby gets the ball and kicks it about five yards along the ground. He gets the bail up again and passes it to D. Hynes. He kicks it and L. Olsen gets it. Soon the ball went out and the game ended with four Norfolk,, nil Inglewood.

The Inglewood team was as follows: R. Kennedy, E. Faris, D. Hynes, L. Olson, K. Hidges. H. Longbottom, T. Winter, D. Codd, F. Orr, W. Reave, and R. Kifkbv. Mr.* Rust, the Norfolk Road schoolmaster, refereed the match. Inglewood boys again thank everyone who got the lovely afternoon tea for them. (This evidently was the most important part of the afternoon). GENERAL AND PERSONAL. The fortnigntly Parish Hall dance, organised by the vicar and the younger Anglicans, took the form of a “hardup” dance on Friday evening, and despite the change in the weather theie was a very good attendance and a very enjoyable evening was spent. These functions have lately become very popular and the closing down time has been extended from 10 to 12 each night. Mr. Harper, of the Bank of New South Wales, Wellington, arrived by the express on Friday evening to relieve Mi. C. C. W. Haselden, the Inglewood manager, who is on his annual leave. Miss J. Kirkby, New Plymouth, is at present spending a few days in Inglewood as the guest of Mrs. L. Kirkby. Mrs. J. Davidson, Waverley, is staying with her parents, the Rev. Charteris ant: Mrs. Charteris. Mrs. A. Leslie is visiting friends in Wanganui.
