AUCKLAND-WAIKATO CHARGES.

Hamilton, Aug. 30

Apparently in an effort to meet the growing competition of motor transit, the Railway Department announces that considerable reductions are to be made in" freights shortly between Auckland and Waikato towns. In many instances the reductions will exceed £1 per ton. In addition the department is instituting free delivery in Hamilton and Cambridge. What is known as the “small lots scale” is being abolished. This means a reduction of about 50 per cent’, in this department. Officials from the head office are now in Hamilton arranging the new schedule of freight rates.
