DECREASE IN CUSTOMS
YEAR’S TOTAL STILL HIGHER.
SLIGHT DROP IN BEER DUTIES.
A decrease of £l2 10s 4d was recorded 'in the Customs duties at the port of New Plymouth for August, compared with the corresponding period last year. There is also a small drop of £l2 5s 9d in the beer duties collected for August, 1929, compared with August, 1928.
The Customs returns for the first eight months of this year are still well above the returns for the corresponding eight months of last year, there being an increase of £4447 9s 9d. Excise duty still shows a steady decline and the returns of the first eight months of this year are less by £571 2s 4d than those for the corresponding months of last year. Details, of the collections made during August are as follows: —
