SEPSIS TAKES TOLL OF COWS

MANY ANIMALS DIE OF SEPSIS. Hamilton, Aug. 28. An epidemic of sepsis among cows is sweeping the Waikato and taking a grim toll of dairy herds. The mortality rate has now reached several hundreds, and is growing more serious daily. This is the third successive year that the scourge has affected the Waikato, over 1000 animals dying last year, and about a similar number the previous year. Prior to that, sepsis was not in evidence since 1921. Mr. S. Burton, M.R.C.V.S., of Hamilton, states that many farmers confuse eclampsia with sepsis. The- former is a manifestation of. fits and convulsions, ar. I the only symptom of the disease makes its appearance usually between the eighth and the fourteenth day after calving. Mr. Burton urges the adoption of immediate preventive measures by oairy farmers. .
