VESSEL DECLARED ‘BLACK'
LARGER CREW DEMANDED — DISPUTE ON COASTAL SCHOONER. NON-UNION LABOUR ENGAGED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—-Copyright. Auckland, Last Night, ; • Owing to a dispute between the Sea* men’s Union and A. G. Frankbam Limited, owners of the auxiliary schooner Hokianga, the schooner has been declared black and members of the union ar® -'? now debarred from signing on the vessel. The Hokianga carried a crew of eight, including two able seamen and one ordinary seaman. The dispute is due to the fact that A. G. Erankham Limited are not members of the Shipowners’ Federation and the company will not work three seamen on the Hokianga in accordance with an agreement made by the Shipowners’ Federation and the Seamen’s Union. The latter is not registered under the Arbitration Act and the union cannot cite < Frankhams to become a party to the agreement. Non-union labour has been engaged to fill the seamen’s positions on the Hokianga.
