Sailing from England for Wellington in 1884, John Woodcock, now a sturdy man of 70, failed to reach his destination until six weeks ago, where on his way homo to England. Having landed at Hobart, ho missed the ship and found work in Tasmania, subsequently visiting most parts of Australia and New Zealand except Wellington. He recently went to Southampton in the Corinthic, on board ■which he met a missionary, the Rev. A. Benton, who persuaded Mr. Woodcock to accompany him as engineer on a voyage to the upper reaches of the Amazon in- a 70-foot motor launch,
