FATALITY AT TARATA

KILLED BY FALLING BRANCH. An accident resulting in the death of a young man named Sidney Francis Young, aged 2(5 years, occurred early yesterday morning on the Otaoaroa Road, about 34 miles from Tarata. It appears that Young, accompanied by a brother, D. H. Young, aged 17 years, had been engaged since July 13 on a fencing contract on a property belonging to the National Mutual Assurance Company. About 7.30 yesterday mornina they started work as usual, and after splitting a few posts commenced felling a. hinau tree for the purpose of providing a further supply of posts. When the tree was about to fall Young, who was an experienced bushman, stepped back with hie brother. Apparently, however, the tree, in falling, struck a titoki tree nearby, breaking a large, half-dead limb off the titoki. His brother at once secured a horse from Mr. A. Greig, the manager of the property, and rode to the Tarata store, where he telephoned Dr. Faris, but the doctor, on arrival, could only pronounce life extinct, death apparently having been instantaneous.

Constable Longbottom was communicated with and brought the body into Inglewood, where an inquest will be held this morning. Young, who was a single man. resided at Korito.
