EUCHRE TOURNAMENT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Over eighty players attended the final euchre party of the series, organised by school committee, on Friday niuht. Competition was very keen, and some close games resulted. Points' prizes for the season were also competed for. At the conclusion, Air. Spratt, chairman of the committee, thanked players for the splendid way in which they had supported the effort, also all those who had donated prizes, particularly Mr. C. G. Preston, who supplied both the ladies’ and gentlemen’s points prizes. Prizewinners for the final tournament were: — Ist ladies. Miss Lavery; 2nd ladies, Mrs. Bloor; lucky number, Miss L. Norfolk; consolation, Mrs, E. Hurliman; gent’s Ist, Mr. L. Jurd; gent’s 2nd, Mr. J. Feaver; lucky number, Mr. A. Kennedy; consolation, Mr. J. Rowe. The ladies’ points prize (a handsome tea set) was won by Mrs. R. Jackson with 40 games, while Mr. F. Startup annexed the gentlemen’s with 42 games. PERSONAL. • Whilst engaged in cutting firewood, Mr. A. E. Spratt had the misfortune to injure his leg. The axe slipped, and inflicted a nasty gash just above the knee. Though it was found necessary to insert several stitches, the injury is healing satisfactorily, and Mr. Spratt is able to get about with the aid of a stick. / BENZINE STOLEN. It is reported that sneak thieves paid a visit to the local factory recently, the object of their attentions being the petrol pump. After forcibly remoying the hose, access was obtained to the pump, and some gallons of benzine removed. The matter is being investigated. 6 GENERAL. It is the intention of the horticultural society to hold an euchre party during August, when good prizes will be offered for competition.
