INGLESIDE FOB HUTRANGI,
Arrangements for- an ingleside at Huirangi to be held in aid of the funds of the. Brixton Cricket Club were discussed at a meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society held on. (Saturday evening, at which there were present Messrs. A. McHardy (chief.),. A, S. KiiKland-, A. Rankin, J. ■Fi Andrews, W. Jones, P. Corkill, A. M, Mac Diarmid, M. Gray Nasmith (hon. secretary). It was. resolved to hold the function in the. Huirangi Hall on. August 10; prices of admission to be 2s Gd- and 2s. Messrs. Nasmith and Corkill were appointed M’s.C. The ladies of Hui-i-iiiigi will be in charge of the suppex’arrangements. A renewed request- from the Westown Hall Committee for an ingleside was received, and it was resolved to accede to the request owing to. the cancellation of the Okato fixture. The function at Westown will be held on August 24. The suppei’ arrangements, will be in the hands of the hall committee.
Arrangements in connection with the final ingleside on September 2 were also made, when Messrs. Mac Diarmid and Erskine will be M’s.C.
The delegate to the Taranaki Provincial Caledonian Sports Association reported that he had attended a meeting of the association at Stratford last week when it was reported that all medals in connection with the recent sports were on order, that they would shortly be presented to the winners, and that all. matters in connection with the sports would shortly be finalised and the annual meeting of the association held. hi connection with the Marton jubilee celebrations in September a request was received asking the support of the pipe band in a proposed contest at the jubilee. After discussion it was resolved to express the society’s regret that the band was unable, to compete. In connection with the New Zealandchampionship contest to be held in Dunedin next February, the chief and secretary were authorised- to ascertain the expenses involved and report to a future: meeting. The pipe-major reported that six applications had been received from pupils desiring to learn piping. He was authorised to procure reeds from Scotland for the piper and a cover, for the new big drum.
The secretary reported that at the request of the . picture theatre manager the pipe band had played outside the Opera House oil- Friday evening prior to tho showing of the picture “Annie Laurie."’
It was resolved that the pipe baud parade on the occasion of the visit of Mr. William Heughan to New Plymouth next month.
