THIEVES FIRE HOUSES
EIGHT CHRISTCHURCH CRIMES'.

Archer, was- the eighth of a similar nature in the city ; in° the past eight weeks. . The total ' damage is estimated at £16,000. 1 Tho police aro investigating, but there , is no trace yet of the criminals. Mr. i Archer’s, loss' is- £3OO by the fire. Ho believes that nothing was; stolen. , The thieves’ first attempt to get into the house was through the breakfastroom. There are two sets of footprints, v one large anl the other much smaller, leading, from the back of the washhouse ,■ across the garden, to the breakfast-room , window, and marks on the catch of the window ' indicate that an attempt was ; made to force it. After being-foiled in the attempt it •; is believed that the thieves gained an | entrance through; one of the dining-room y window?-.
