WOMEN’S DIVISION

ACTIVITIES IN TARANAKI; A special meeting of the Inglewood branch of the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union was held on July 17 to discuse the advisability of appointing another delegate in place of Mrs. Mackinder, who unfortunately sprained her ankle and was therefore unable to attend tho conference. It was decided to send only one delegate to the Dominion conference this year. The sympathy of the branch was extended to Mrs. Mackinder and regrets expressed that she would not be able to attend the conference. It was arranged that the next meeting should be held on August 14. The feature of this gathering is to be a display of the most useful and pleasing articles made from sugar bags, WHANGAMOMOXA MEETING. On July 16 Mrs. A. Coxhead, vicepresident of- the Whangamomona branch, held a gathering at her homestead to augment the local earthquake relief fund. Competitions during the afternoon were won by Mrs. Bottomley, Mrs. Catchpole, Mrs. Howley and Mrs. Perry. Those present were: Mesdames J. Anderson, Dagg, Stockwell, Hodder, Bottomley, Catchpole, Clarke, Wallace, Howley, Perry and tho Misses Bottomley and Ashton. Many novel methods for emptying the purse were in evidence. At the conclusion Mrs. Catchpole thanked Mrs. Coxhead for the enjoyable afternoon and for lending her house for so worthy an object. A general meeting of the Whangamomona branch was held in the Kohuratahi hall on July 26 to make arrangements for the ball.
