THOROUGH SOLDIER SOUGHT WAR MINISTER MAKES PLEA SPIRIT IF NOT EQUIPMENT By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Times Cable. London, July 10. The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that the War Minister, General Groener, in a speech to the cadets at the opening of the school at Muerwik, described the spirit which should animate the present German army. . ' . He said it was not enough to be an ordinary soldier; what was wanted was a thorough soldier without weakness, one capable' of performing more than is performed elsewhere. The crushing limitations under which Germany existed prevented the army being properly equipped, but one thing it could have was a superiority of spirit, will and character.
"Our old army and navy were wonderful instruments of war. Their traditions must never be forgotten,” he .added.
