SMALL STEAMER DAMAGED

TANGAROA GOES ASHORE. By I’clegraph.—Press Association. Wairoa, July 5. While negotiating the Wairoa bar yesterday afternoon Richardson and Company’s small steamer Tangaroa was struck by a heavy sea and went ashore. The vessel was safely refloated at midnight, but had been considerably damaged. Temporary repairs were effected to enable the vessel to reach the wharf. Pumping operations proceeded all night. The cargo was considerably damaged by water. The vessel had the stern decking torn and three holes pierced in tho hull near the main hold.
