FRUITGROWERS’ REQUESTS
MORE PROTECTION DESIRED.

Wellington,. Last Night. . A deputation from the annual confers ence of the Fruitgrowers’ Association waited on the Ministers of Agriculture, Education and Customs to-day and asked for genera! support by the Government for the fruitgrowers of the Dominion in reference to the importation of jam and dried fruits into the Do-’ minion from countries where coloured labour was used. The Hon. H. Atinore, Minister o£ Education, stated that the Government recognised the condition as unfair. Th<3 Minister of Agriculture (Hon. G. W. Forbes) said the proper move hi regard to provinces being enabled to vote themselves into export control ehould come from the provinces concerned. He said ho had received protests signed by fruitgrowers against legislation forcing control measures on them. In answer to a request that an Tn* vestigation should be held into the importation of artificial extracts and col* ouring in essences, cordials and the Minister promised to refer the matter to the Health Department.
