HURWORTH HALL
ANNUAL MEETING OF COMMITTEE
The Hurworth Hall committee held its annual meeting on Thursday evening, when Mr. F. Baker presided. The report congratulated the district on the good financial position of the hall. The mortgage of £2OO held by Mr. Wi Kupe was called up ami the committee, after several unsuccessful attempts to arrange a mortgage, approached the manager of a bank and an overdraft of £2OO was arranged. With the balance in hand, and the receipts from functions, the overdraft now stood at £123 19s 2d, which went to show that tho hall was being conducted on sound lines, and, witn the continued support of tho district, he hoped to see the debt further reduced by this time next year. The balance-sheet showed that the money taken at dances, sports, euchre parties and hire- of hall amounted to £l3l 0s 4d, when the expenses (which included bank charges and interest, as well as tho costs of entertainments) were £9l 3s 2d, leaving a profit of £39 17s 2d for the year’s workings. After writin" off £25 as depreciation on hall buildings and piano, the. value of assets stood at £351.
Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers were elected as follows:— President, Mr. C. C. Gilbert; vice-presi-dent, Mr. li. Hill; secretary ami treasurer Mr. Roy Allan; auditor, Mr. P. Gilbert; committee, Mesdamcs Allan and Gilbert, Messrs. 11. Allan, F. Baker, J. Jans, C. Smith, K. Webb and M. Wood.
Votes of thanks were passed to the past president, secretary, ladies and the Press. The secretary was granted an honorarium of £2 2s.
